"They keep telling me 'bout heaven, it sounds a lot like when I'm with you"
Have you ever sat with your friends playing video games, eating pizza, and talking about life? That's what Origami Angel's music feels like. Reyland and Pat blend Jazz, Punk, Emo, and Math Rock together to make a beautifully unique sound that I've yet to find in any other band. Their music is crafted in a way that their songs all become earworms. The band cites bands like Barenaked Ladies and Prince Daddy & The Hyenas as their influences, along with a few other musicians.

Quiet Hours is Origami Angel's first release, a seven-track EP that features many ups and downs with the quality. Some of the songs on the EP are way weaker than others, but it is a delightful starting point overall. The EP covers topics that would become staples in Origami's themes, including friendships and old relationships, and there's a thick layer of nostalgia over the whole thing. My favourite song off the EP: Mark My Words Doing The Most is Origami's second release, a five-track EP that follows a very similar vibe and sound to Quiet Hours. The songs off the EP are good but feel forgettable in comparison to their later releases. My favourite song off the EP: ROM Hack Holy Split is where we start to see Origami really shine, both Denny's Devito and Origami Bagel are beautifully crafted songs. The guitars have a beautiful crunch to them, and the lyrics feel so deeply personal like you're sitting right by a close friend as they play a song for you. At this point, Reyland seems to have started to get comfortable with singing, compared to the past two releases. His guitar riffs are energetic and addictive, and Pat's drum patterns and fills provide a perfect background to the songs. My favourite song off the EP: Origami Bagel. Gen 3 is one of Origami's best demonstrations of the pure energy they want to push into their music, the four-track EP consists of a wide range of sounds that complement each other, as well as they, contrast each other. I don't normally mention the album art during these reviews but for Gen 3 I just have to, the cover is so beautifully done and the little jokes along with the whole GameBoy cover theme just scream out with spirit that is uniquely Origami Angel. My favourite song from the EP: XD Gale Of Darkness Somewhere City is Origami's first LP and it was the release that truly sold me on this duo. 24 Hr Drive-Thru, 666 Flags, Doctor Whomst, Skeleton Key, The Air Up Here, Find Your Throne, Escape Rope, this album is full of songs that are just perfect. I don't dislike a single song on this album, and I'd be hard-pressed to say it is even possible to dislike any of them. Jazzy Whomst is the only single Origami Angel has released, and musically it is really what the name implies, it is a Jazzier version of Doctor Whomst, featuring no vocals. The guitar tone has an almost Mario-esque sound to it at points, and I think this is a beautiful little rendition of an already banger song, but the story doesn't end there. No, for this little song was a charity single, raising money for Feeding America's Covid-19 response fund. A noble cause, and a cute little song. Origami Angel Broke Minecraft is a cute little EP that takes a bunch of Origami Angel songs and puts a unique twist on them. It also includes a song from their at-the-time upcoming album, which I'll talk about in a minute. The tracks all breathe new life into songs from various points in the Origami discography. The songs range from having a very dancey feel to synthpop-esque. It's a cute little EP and I personally adore everything it does. My favourite song from the EP: 24 Hr Delivery / KD MVP Gami Gang is Origami Angel's second LP, most recent release, and a special one at that. The twenty-track double-LP is a behemoth. It really is the antithesis of everything I've said about the duo, it is a perfect closer to their discography as it stands. I had the honour to see them live a few months back, and the songs they performed off this LP were my favourites of their performance. My favourite song from the LP: Noah Fence
